Parlour Chair

Parlour Chair Is Still Found In Many Homes And Businesses

Parlour is a familiar term and anybody can associate parlour with a small room or drawing room  in the house which usually is used to entertain visitors. In terms of business, a parlour is a room for customers of a business that provides services. And the chair where you sit your guest is naturally called a parlour chair. The derivative of the furniture’s name is the place where it is used. A chair is given the name parlour chair simply because it is designed for use of any visitor or customer in a parlour.

A parlour chair is a typical style of Irish furniture usually used in a pub, hotel or restaurant, if not in the drawing room of the house. There are different kinds and make of the parlour chair. The best parlour chair is made of the highest quality of wood, with an equally high quality of painting finishing. All the parts, back, legs, seat and arm rests (if the model has one) are made from high quality solid wood.

A famous type is the Victorian parlour chair. This is hand-carved from solid hardwood. It is a replica of an antique chair because it is designed to accommodate the elegant ladies of the Victorian period. It has been a custom during that period that single ladies await their suitors while sitting on a Victorian parlour chair. It has stunning and intricate carvings with crested grapevine motif. It is the perfect accent to a sitting room or a boudoir. It is upholstered in plush fabric and usually decorated with tassel fringe. Different prints and colors of the fabric are carefully picked and should reflect the Victorian era.

Another type is the parlor chair with metal hairpin back. It has metal frame with pull over seat. The seat can be upholstered or solid wood. It was called hairpin parlour chair because of the design of the back which resembles hairpins – very thin metal. If the upholstery is the preference, the upholstery grade can be specified.

There is a parlour series chair with sweetheart back. It has a 16 gauge metal frame and applied on it is a standard metal frame. It is designed with 1” pulled seat with platform glide.  The upholstery can be selected to suit the buyer’s preference. Painting can be upgraded from the standard to premium, subject to additional cost.

A favorite type of parlour chair is the Steel Ice Cream Parlor chair. This is found in ice cream establishment, restaurant, café or cafeteria. Many designs of parlor chair are inspired by the 19th Century Brentwood chair design. These chairs are heavy duty with an 18” gauge steel tube restaurant chair construction.

The beauty parlor chair has a different use. It usually has armrest. The back, seat and arm rests are upholstered with leather. It has been usually called the Black parlour chair, maybe because its color is usually black. And as the name implies, you can find various models when you visit a site shop.

The parlour  chair is still existent in this modern high technology world. Houses and establishments have spaces that are referred to as parlour.  In this regard, any chair in the room called parlour is called a parlour chair.
